YouTube Is a Great Source of Free Traffic!

YouTube has been growing and growing and has become the biggest “search engine” on the internet. How do you take advantage of that to get traffic to your website? Keep reading and I’ll show you…

How I Used YouTube to Drive Tons of Traffic to My Business

About a year ago I was participating in an online business that required me to recruit others into the business in order to increase my income. The company provided a replicated website for me to drive traffic to, but it was not designed to get visitors to actually join, or take any kind of action. Big mistake!

So I set up my own squeeze page with one objective – to get people to give me their name and email address to join my business at the free trial level. Now, all I had to do was figure out how to get people to visit the squeeze page. Enter, YouTube.

After attending a webinar that demonstrated this technique, I decided to make a video and upload it to YouTube. Here’s a quick step by step outline of what I did next:

  1. Copied all the text from the replicated website’s “How The Business Works” page.
  2. Designed a colorful slide in Open Office Impress – including the link to my squeeze page
  3. Made a slide for each paragraph of the text
  4. Converted the slides into a video with Windows Movie Maker
  5. Uploaded the video to YouTube
  6. Entered the full text into the description for the video – making sure the link to my squeeze page was included

YouTube VideoThat’s it. Because the business itself was well known, there were a lot of searches conducted by people wanting to know more about it. My video would appear at or near the top of every search result!

Using YouTube for Traffic Is Simple and Extremely Effective

During the next 60 days, that “boring ” video received over 24,000 views and 104 people registered for the free trial. 8 of those upgraded to a paid level. Not too shabby!

Why did this work so well? The key lies in the description of the YouTube video. Most people just put a sentence or two – if anything at all. My description told Google exactly what the video was about and included the keywords. Google likes videos, so they loved displaying  it in the SERPS.

Social Media as a Source of Targeted Traffic

Social media is probably one of the easiest ways to build a source of highly targeted traffic. All you have to do is exploit the popularity of social networks like Twitter.com, Ning, Linkedin and Facebook.com. Social marketing is all about directly connecting with your customer base, engaging them in conversation and building relationships with your target audience.

Social media offer countless ways to connect with your audience.

When it comes to social media there are countless ways to connect with your target audience. With Facebook, you could set up paid advertising campaigns that are set to deliver based on user activity. It’s a highly targeted form of advertising and a very cost effective strategy for those who want to test the waters while generating quick and steady traffic to their website.

You can also set up no-cost marketing campaigns just by creating a Facebook page for your business and connecting with potential customers. You can enhance your Facebook pages by offering discounts, special coupons and savings available only to those who join your Facebook group, like your page, or connect with you in another way.

Focus on offering value in social media communities.

Instead of marketing heavily within your social communities, always focus on offering value in the form of useful information, hard to find material, freebies, discounts and other benefit-driven offers that will help you stand out while nurturing relationships within your market.

With social media platforms like Twitter, you’re able to connect with your audience easily just by sending out short updates, notices and news of interest.

Finally, don’t forget the other leading social networks like Linkedin.com and Ning.com. Both of these are viable social media platforms that will help you further extend your marketing outreach. Linkedin is considered the “professionals social media community” where you can create a live portfolio and resume that lists your
achievements, connections, business information and contacts. With Ning, you are able to create your very own customized social media community – providing your customers, members and subscribers with a fun and easy way to interact with one another and with you.

Free Traffic vs Paid Traffic

This website is primarily about generating free traffic, and you will discover that the best way to do that is by connecting directly with your best audience.  However, if you’re thinking about buying traffic, I’d like to point out a few things to you before you do.

Paid Traffic can be extremely costly!

It is possible to generate fast and easy traffic to your website, but you’ll have to set up advertising campaigns with pay-per-click marketplaces like Google Adwords. These campaigns will send instant traffic to your website, but they often come at a hefty price – requiring constant monitoring in order to ensure that your advertising dollars aren’t wasted.

Most of the guaranteed traffic programs you can pay for are 99% scam. Statistics show that if you force users to view your website (usually through black-hat techniques like URL hijacking, malware installations, pop up ads and the works), they are NOT going to be the least bit interested in what you have to offer.

You can also take the commercial traffic approach and blindly advertise your website with local signage, TV/movie commercials, print publications, radio spots or even banner ads on a major search engine. True, you will get views, but those methods can be very expensive with a very poor return on your investment.

So, forget PPC and other expensive advertising for now! When you’re just starting out, and you have little or no budget, you have to learn how to drive traffic by using only free methods!

Content is the best way to get free traffic!

The best way to market your website is through text related content
(or SEO – Search Engine Optimization), because this means targeted advertising. You only interact with traffic that acknowledges being interested in your products or services. Statistically, this is a no brainer. You generate free traffic because you are now connecting directly with your target audience. All that matters now is your presentation, and we’ll be talking a whole lot more about that in upcoming articles.

Forums Are Still Alive

Before there was such a thing as MySpace (the first big social media site) or Facebook, there were the Internet forums, or in archaic terms – the “chat room” or the bulletin board system.

Forums brought people together who shared very specific interests, or niches, long before there were universal networks like Facebook that connected everybody together.

Well, guess what? They haven’t gone out of style. If you do a little research, you’ll see that there are forums out there dedicated to almost any subject you can think of.

Here’s a few forums in specific niches:

German Shepherd Owners

Gardening in the Rocky Mountains

Bass Fishing

Forums can be a goldmine for targeted traffic, if you participate properly…

When you join a forum, the first thing you want to do is join in a
discussion that interests you, and either give an honest answer,
or maybe ask a good question. No matter what, DO NOT even
mention anything you’re selling! You don’t want to be marked
as a spammer.

Your goal is to contribute to the conversation by offering free,
high quality content, tools and resources to your audience.
If done correctly, you’ll quickly develop a positive presence within
the forums and people will appreciate that, and begin to address you personally.

If you’re going to be successful in a forum, you MUST give first!

Nearly all forums offer the opportunity to create a profile that includes your URL, a short bio and personal information such as your name, email address and in many cases, your social media accounts (like twitter or facebook).

Forums also offer you another way to maximize exposure through what is called a “signature”. A signature may includea few lines of text and a direct URL, and is attached to every post you make. Many forums allow only one URL, but some allow multiple URL’s as long as your signature does not exceed a certain length of characters.

You want to include a direct URL to your very best content page. Do not link directly to a sales page, but instead, provide a direct link from the forum to a page on your website that offers something of value. This could be a page on your blog that provides direct download links to free products, tools and resources, or it could be a link to a squeeze page that offers a valuable incentive in exchange for their subscription.
